The same concepts are actually seen in rotator cuff tendonitis and rotator cuff tendinitis. Perhaps, the two conditions\’ difference is only the spelling of their individual terms.

We are going to study all about tendonitis, including its definition, its different causes and the different symptoms of tendonitis. How is tendonitis being diagnosed? How is the rotator cuff MRI used in order to advise the best rotator cuff treatment options?

What is the definition of tendonitis?

Basically, the condition tendonitis is the definitive and most common cause of shoulder pain. The causes, diagnosis, and treatment regimen are still subject for a debate. When even the spelling, experts do not agree already, then what are other chances for them to be agreeing on anything else?

Generally speaking, tendonitis is the irritation and inflammation of the bodies\’ tendons. Usually, the onset is sudden or acute. There may be preceding injury which happened before its occurrence. Perhaps there was san overuse of the shoulder. Overuse of shoulder can be seen to those athletes who compete in sports requiring arm work over head height such as throwing sports and swimming, for example.

There can be so many different symptoms of rotator cuff tendonitis.

The most common symptom is pain. Most often, pain is in the top and front of the shoulder but occasionally to the side too. A person with any overhead activity or during exercise can worsen the pain.

Another symptom commonly seen is weakness; there will be a noticeable reduction in shoulder strength particularly with overhead activities.

The shoulder will have a hot or burning sensation. It may be difficult for you to sleep on the affected side of the shoulder.

Those also having bursitis at the same time can have a popping or cracking sensation in the shoulder

As you are being examined, the doctor can possibly make an accurate diagnosis based on the signs and symptoms seen. An accurate diagnosis can be achieved more possibly when you will be asked about when the problems started, what makes it better / worse, what the pain is like, if there was a specific incident, and what range of mobility you have in the shoulder.

You will be tested with your full range of motion and when pain is felt through series of examinations. Painful arc test will be one of a number of tests to be performed to assess your status; it will let you lift your arm up and away from the body to measure when pain is felt – often in the region of 70 – 120 degrees.

Using ultrasound or a rotator cuff MRI scan can be more recommended since it yields more factual results.

Treating tendonitis is quite simple yet effective. You can have no way forward.

Stop whatever you are doing! When you do something and it causes tendonitis and pain then stop it. You must settle things down first. Try RICE, which stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation

You can have painkillers and anti inflammatory medication which are prescribed by doctors

Perform exercises which strengthen your cuff muscles You have to gradually go back in action.
