I Never Would Have Thought That I Would Have to Get My Teeth Replaced

When I had dental implants two years ago I was forced into the procedure due to my need to replace missing teeth. Well, actually replace one tooth, but while single tooth implants was an appealing option to reduce the dental implants cost – I had secretly always wanted dental implants to enhance the look of my natural teeth.
I\’ve always been a bit of a freak about my teeth and always floss and mind my oral care health (I\’m pretty much the dream dental patient) – but dental implants seemed out of reach due to dental implants cost and the sheer cosmetic nature of the procedure. It\’s really hard to justify an unneeded surgery to your husband, especially when he already thinks your teeth look great and isn\’t quite as into his dental health (frankly, with the way he takes care of his teeth – and I\’m sure his dentist would agree, he\’s definitely going to need full on dentures by the time he hits 70 – he\’s certainly not one our dentist\’s favored dental patients).
But then! I was in a very minor car accident and dental implants suddenly seemed a necessity. I\’d chipped a tooth somehow (still not exactly sure how that happened) and the dental implants were no longer a frivolous cosmetic surgery. Even though I\’d only chipped one tooth, when I decided to go with dental implants, it seemed silly just to have the treatment for a single tooth, plus, I wanted the final dental implants to enhance my natural teeth as best as possible.
Happily, the dental implants surgery was actually not that bad. If you are person who tends to your oral care and have your teeth regularly cleaned by a dentist, or have had your wisdom teeth removed, I can\’t imagine that you\’ll find dental implants any more traumatic than your most frightening dental procedure to date.
The recovery from of the dental implants was also very manageable. Basically, some tenderness in the gums and around the teeth, but that is to be expected with any sort of more serious oral procedure. Once the gums healed from the dental implants surgery, however, it was as if my teeth were back to normal.
The dentist explained to me the need to maintain my existing oral care regime to care for the dental implants. This basically amounted to what you should do for general oral health – brushing regularly after meals and flossing around teeth. The dentist also explained to me not to put too much excess pressure on the teeth, but from what I can tell, this isn\’t a real threat any more than it is with your natural teeth.
The dental implants have turned out beautifully and from my experience, I would certainly recommend considering an implant if you lose or chip a tooth – and perhaps as way to enhance your smile beyond traditional teeth whitening if you simply want a way to improve the cosmetic appearance of your teeth. You Never know When you May Need Dental Implants
