For years, millions of people have been on a crusade against smoking, and for good reason. Smoking can kill, for one thing. It can kill people and it can kill the environment as well. Still, despite many quit smoking tips on the internet and elsewhere, some people just can not simply break the habit without breaking themselves in the process.

In an attempt to arrest this worldwide problem, concerned individuals and health organizations have come up with many websites, pamphlets and brochures on smoking and quit smoking tips. With the increasing dangers of smoking, quit smoking tips should all the more be given a lot of importance. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, with many people opting not to know the truth.

Most often, these diseases lead to death. Sadly, though, in spite of it all, some people still continue to smoke. They will rather not read or know the facts about how smoking kills both people and the environment than give up smoking altogether.

Generally, the first step in quit smoking tips starts with his own determination to stop smoking. The fight against smoking is your own personal battle. Nobody else can go out there and fight for you. Say the words out loud that you want to quit smoking no matter what. Then believe that you can do it because you really can. Kicking the habit requires a good amount of mind conditioning. It is kind of psychological. Believe in yourself and the rest will follow.

Also, family support is very important in this first step. Let the members of your family, as well as your friends, know that you want to quit smoking. Having their love, care, and support will help encourage you to finally make a stand against smoking.

Lastly, when you start to crave for smoking, immediately chew on a gum or nibble at something hard – be it a hard candy or a popsicle stick or anything you can get your hands on. Having something in your mouth will give you the impression that you are, in a way, smoking without actually doing it.

Another tip to stop smoking is avoiding temptation at all cost. Remove anything in your house that will remind you of smoking. Get rid of your lighters, ashtrays, and unused cigarette sticks. And avoid going to places, like bars and disco clubs, where you are likely to be tempted to smoke. If ever you have to go out, choose a restaurant with a non-smoking area.
